Hello and welcome to Basajaun Games! It has taken a long while, but we’re finally ready to unveil our very own website. Woo!
Okay, let’s start with the basics. You might have stumbled upon this site without really knowing anything about us, so let’s fix that real quick. Basajaun Games is a video game development and localization company based in Bilbao, Spain. That said, our team, small as it may be, is made up of people from all over the world!
We are currently developing our first original title. We have been working on it since 2020, but our lack of resources means its development has been very, veeery slow. Still, if things go as they should, we ought to be able to announce it sometime this year. We hope you’ll be as excited about it as we are!
However, developing a game is an EXPENSIVE endeavour considering all the people we have to pay fair wages to, so we finance it by translating other people’s games into Spanish and/or Basque. We have an extensive catalogue at this point (and it even includes a famous TV show), so feel free to browse through it. There are tons of gems in there, and we will work hard to keep providing you with quality translations for quality games! (By the way, if you’re here because you wanted to work with us to translate your game, check out the Contact page.)
Until now, we had been talking to you all and advertising our new projects through social media. That’s fine and all, and we do encourage everyone to follow us in their preferred platforms for convenience (we will continue to use them!), but we felt like we needed to have our own hub, independent from the whims of anybody else, now that we have grown a little and we have several projects under our belt. And that is the basic function of this website: to give you a comprehensive look at our portfolio and to stay in touch in ways that, perhaps, aren’t suited for social media. Like long-form blog posts, for instance, or even job openings in case you want to join our team! (But no, we are not hiring right now – sorry!)
By the way, our fantastic logo was designed by our good friend Pedro Iglesias, so reach out to him if you need one yourself!
On that note, though, the most important question to answer right now is…
What even is a basajaun, anyway?
In Basque mythology, the basajauns, whose name literally means “Lord of the Woods”, are a race of giant hominids. While their depiction varies and there are different legends and stories linked to them, they are generally portrayed as wise, ancient and kind creatures who protect the Basque woods and help Nature keep its balance. Basajauns are said to have inhabited the Basque Country long before humans arrived.
At heart, while basajauns are enormous and incredibly strong creatures that may seem scary, they are defined by their will to do the right thing, protect what’s precious to them and build strong relationships with those who are different.
Basajaun Games is a studio composed of people from different parts of the world and with different cultural backgrounds, but we all share that same spirit. We are here, working with and listening to all kinds of people, to be able to tell both our stories and theirs with the maximum respect, while we also try our best to offer fun and memorable game experiences that you will be glad to have embarked on.
