OUR TEAM

Basajaun Games is a videogame development studio based in Bilbao, Spain. We are an international team with diverse cultural backgrounds who work remotely from different parts of the world: from Bilbao itself to Australia, as well as multiple regions of Spain, Luxembourg, Germany, the United States or Italy, among others.

On top of all the people who actively work on our projects, we have the invaluable help of dozens of people who give us advice, support us, share their experiences with us and, in short, enrich our work in a plethora of ways that we would have never managed to achieve all on our own.

OUR AWARDS

Throughout our journey, we’ve had the privilege of working on fantastic projects that have earned a plethora of awards, and we’re proud to say that some of those awards were granted to our translation work. For instance:

But professional juries aren’t the only ones who appreciate our work: specialized press, such as AnaitGames or Game Erauntsia, have given us special mentions while reviewing some of the games we’ve worked on, and players themselves have also praised our translations on Twitter, Bluesky or Steam (here, or here, or here.)

OUR STANCE ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Basajaun Games does not use, and will never use, generative artificial intelligence within its creative processes. Every word, image or sound you find in our original projects or our translations has been created by hand by humans. The elements that cannot be seen (concept art, for example) have also been made by hand, without resorting to any kind of artificial intelligence.

Since we translate projects from other developers, we can’t guarantee that those projects will always be AI-free. However, we do know that most of our main clients are diametrically opposed to generative AI: NomnomNami (BAD END THEATER; her tears were my light…), npckc (a pet shop after dark; you’re just imagining it) or Alblune (Squeakross: Home Squeak Home), among others.

Likewise, we cannot guarantee that the game engines we use won’t use AI to develop their code, simply because we didn’t create those engines ourselves. But what we can and do guarantee is that everything we put into those engines is indeed made by hand. Our mistakes, too, are human-made.

But what we can guarantee is that everything we put into our games has been completely made by hand and, through this page, we do guarantee it.

THE BASAJAUN

In Basque mythology, the basajauns, whose name mean “Lord of the Forest,” are a race of hominid giants. Although their description varies and there are many different stories and legends associated to them, they are often depicted as wise, ancient and gentle creatures who protect Basque forests and help Nature keep its balance. It is said that basajauns inhabited the Basque Country since way before humans ever showed up.

Only a few of the members of our team are Basque, but we all share the values that the basajaun has historically represented: the will to do what’s right, protect what’s dear to us, and build strong relationships with those who are not like us.
