Our Stance on Artificial Intelligence

Hello!

Writing this feels quite depressing, but, given the current state of things, we thought it was necessary. Therefore, here is a simple statement to make everything very clear:

Basajaun Games does not use, and will never use, generative artificial intelligence within its creative processes. Every word, image or sound you find in our original projects or our translations has been created by hand by humans. The elements that cannot be seen (concept art, for example) have also been made by hand, without resorting to any kind of artificial intelligence.

Generative artificial intelligence is a plague. Simple plagiarism. Vile theft. Extremely polluting. And, on top of all of that, it leaves in the hands of a machine what makes human beings human to begin with: art and creativity. The term “creative artificial intelligence” is also used in English from time to time, but I don’t think we can say it really is creative in the slightest.

Artificial intelligence may have its uses, but there is no room for it in our creative process, and using it frontally opposes our values.

Of course, since we translate projects from other developers, we can’t guarantee that those projects will always be AI-free. However, we do know that most of our main clients are diametrically opposed to generative AI: NomnomNami (BAD END THEATER; her tears were my light…), npckc (a pet shop after dark; you’re just imagining it) or Alblune (Squeakross: Home Squeak Home), among others.

Likewise, we cannot guarantee that the game engines we use won’t use AI to develop their code, simply because we didn’t create those engines ourselves. But what we can and do guarantee is that everything we put into those engines is indeed made by hand. Our mistakes, too, are human-made.

This subject is so important that we have included this information on our About Us page to reiterate it and make it very clear. You can always find that page at the top of our site.
